How can you tell if you have low blood sugar?
Sonya asked:
I went to the doctors because I have been having irregular periods, and they took my blood. The results said that I have low blood sugar, but he said not to worry about it. However, when I had my blood taken a second time, it still said that I have low blood sugar. How can I tell? What are some of they symptoms and causes?

I know that people with low blood sugar sometimes get dizzy between meals. Eating snacks helps. I think people with low blood sugar bruise easily, too.

The signs and symptoms of hypoglycemia are shakiness, sweating, pale, agitation, and weakness. Everyone tolerates their sugars at different levels, but the norm is 80-120. If you don’t have those signs and symptoms, then I wouldn’t worry about it.

Some of the symptoms are very simple, hunger, dizziness, you could get tired, grumpy or have cold sweats, headache, nausea, and you could get shaky. You should always have something sweet like candy with you and fallow a good healthy diet. See your doctor regularly. Also, you can go to or American diabetes association web site and find out more information on it.

If you suddenly begin fading back into reality while laying in the middle of the grocery store… and you can’t remember your name, any ones face, or the species of your origin… I would consider this symptomatic of low-blood sugar.

If you didn’t eat anything prior to seeing your Doctor, then most likely that is what caused your low blood sugar. IWas the second time your blood was taken during the same visit?
You can tell your blood sugar is low if you start feeling Howweak, shaky, feeling like you need to throw up and having a headache. It is possible not to feel any symptoms and still have low blood sugar.

If you are not having symptoms, don’t worry too much about it. Usually someone who is hypoglycemic (low blood sugar), it is recommended to eat 6 small meals a day. Higher protein and lower carbs seems to be better. If you do have symptoms (shakiness, irritability, run down, dizziness, nausea), eating something sugary can help but it is better to keep something with peanut butter on hand to get the benefit of protein and sugar. If you are really concerned, you can monitor your blood sugar levels for a period of time (ask your pharmacist for the necessary equipment – monitor, lancets or needles, etc) and then make an appt with your doctor to discuss your concerns.
