With diabetes they shouldn’t drink although I do know some that do. I also know two young guys in my community that recently died after drinking, they were both diabetic.

you should avoid it, because it can not only messi with your blood sugars, but also with some of the meds if you are taking any.

So are any of the responders medical people? I sheepishly admitted to my diabetic nurse that I enjoyed tequila and orange juice for dinner. Thinking that I was going to be scolded, she responded that my choice of beverage was fine, but I needed more carbohydrates and needed lean protein. So my one cocktail and half a sandwich was acceptable for her. Perhaps the responders are considering alcohol beyond moderation. In that case, alcohol is unhealthy for anyone.

I agree with Teresa. Not over doing it in drinking no matter what alcohol it is, eating protein at the sametime helps the sugars. Alcohol also counts as a carb and has to be taken into consideration too. You watch what you eat and how much you drink.

The other poster that mentioned losing 2 guys after they drank. It sounds like they just overdid themselves. You have to have a little something to eat when you drink being diabetic.

Be very careful. Be sure to have a good meal before drinking. Keep an eye on your blood sugars. Hard liquor will actually make your blood sugar drop, thus making you more sensitive to an insulin dose. Beer has lots of carbs, but again, the alcohol content will affect your blood sugars for about a day.

Trust me on this one. That thing about alcohol being converted to sugar is a fable. Watch for hypos more than anything.

    Everything in moderation, of course.

Do not dose for the carbs in alcohol.
    Alcohol LOWERS your sugar level.
Only drink moderately and always check your sugar. make sure to eat when ever you have a drink.
